Strap in for a meeting of musical and muscular minds, because actor and Tenacious D riff-demon Jack Black is having a pseduo-feud with Thor himself — aka Chris Hemsworth — and they’re set to resolve the whole thing with a ‘Battle Of The Jams’.
It all started over the weekend when Black took to Instagram to call out Hemsworth’s latest film, Thor: Ragnarok, for supposedly copying Black’s 2003 masterpiece School Of Rock through its use of Led Zeppelin’s ‘Immigrant Song’.
“It’s come to my attention that someone kind of stole that chunk of our movie and put it in their movie,” Black said.
“That’s right, I’m talking about Thor: Ragnarok. Totally bit our style, totally poached our jam. And now they’re parading around town like they thought of it. Well, you don’t get to do that and get away with it, bro.”
Black ended his message by challenging Thor — well, Hemsworth — to a ‘Battle Of The Jams’, and we wet our pants with excitement a little.
Black also shared video from the set of the upcoming film The House With A Clock In Its Walls, in which he recreates Thor: Ragnarok‘s final battle scene with help from Cate Blanchett, who portrayed Hela the goddess of death in Thor: Ragnarok.
In response, Hemsworth has taken to Instagram to accept Black’s challenge to a duel.
“You’re right, you got me. Guilty as charged,” he said.
“We stole ‘Immigrant Song’ from you. But guess what? You stole it too.”
There was even time for a quick dig at Tenacious D to get the disses flowing.
“We would have used your song,” Hemsworth continued. “But as you said in your song, this ‘is not the greatest song in the world’.”
Hemsworth eventually accepted Black’s invitation to a ‘Battle Of The Jams’, despite not knowing what a ‘Battle Of The Jams’ actually is.
He even showed off some of his jamming chops, and it’s safe to say that Black has the musical upper-hand right right now…
So yeah, it’s on.
