I don’t know why people decide to live in Alaska — it’s freezing cold, you’re miserable and depressed and vampires come out of the woodworks to attack you when the sun heads out. At least according to a movie I saw. But people live there, and coming face-to-face with a moose is apparently something that happens over there.
A woman named Alberta Laktonen recently came back to her house to find a moose not only attacking her mailbox, but attacking her car as well, and busting her mirror.

Laoktonen describes the incident below.
“As I left my home with my dogs for our morning walk, I noticed a moose peacefully nibbling out of my neighbor’s yard. When we returned from the walk, the moose was agitated and attacking my car and mailbox. I initially started recording in order to document for insurance, and also to share with friends and family.
The attack went on much longer than I initially expected. Eventually, I tried to call my husband at work to see if he could help me contact someone to help. When he didn’t answer, I ended up calling 911. While I was on the phone with the 911 operator, the moose ran off. My dogs were well-behaved during the whole incident, and no animals or people were injured.”

Laktonen reveals that the damage to her Prius comes out to about $5,600.
And according to Ken Marsh, a spokesman for the Alaska Department of Fish and Game, the bull moose was exercising pretty typical “demonstrating” behavior for the rutting season.
“Basically it means their hormones are raging and they have this need to show off and show how tough they are,” Marsh said.
So it’s pretty similar to what guys do.
