It’s 2017 and people are marrying themselves because the majority of humans are garbage cans — that’s why Italian woman Laura Mesi married herself. But one woman was doing it before Mesi and the rest of the folks were saying “I do” to themselves. And that woman is Sophie Tanner, who decided to marry herself way back in 2015.
Well fast forward two years later and Tanner has already revealed that she’s cheated…on herself. Tanner recently appeared on the morning talk show This Morning to tell everyone that she has been shacking up with a dude named Ruari Barrett, a polyamorist who turned temporarily to monogamy while dating Sophie, in a relationship that lasted five months. That’s right, a polyamorist who turned to monogamy. Oh boy.
And guess what? It didn’t work out for the two of them, so you know what Barrett did? He also married himself. Just check out the interview below.
And tanner is serious about all this — here’s just some of what she says:
“Self-marriage is about self-love. It’s saying that self-compassion and self-care is as important as romantic relationships It doesn’t mean you’re rejecting all other meaningful relationships in your life and becoming a nun forever more. It means you’re rejecting bad relationships.
If only there was more self-love in the world, we wouldn’t need ceremonies like this. This is a statement which looks to raise the profile of self-love, saying it’s as important as romantic love and doing it as a formal ceremony as anyone else would have a wedding.
Marrying yourself is a lifelong commitment to be responsible for your own happiness, so divorce is not an option.”
I get that, but why announce to the world that you’re marrying yourself? I’m sure everyone reading this gives themselves self-love most nights in their bedroom, but no need to tell everyone.
