St. Louis Believes In Magical ‘Rally Cat’ That Propeled Cardinals To Victory

Love ’em or hate ’em, the St. Louis Cardinals seem to have a knack for squeezing every ounce of luck out of feral creatures. Wednesday night was no exception after a kitten ran onto the field.

In case you don’t have the patience to watch the video from my phone — and yes, I promise it was all recorded live — here is what happened in a nut shell:

This cute kitty runs onto the field.

The players, namely Royals outfielder Lorenzo Cain, just stand and watch waiting for someone to get their claws on the cat.

A groundskeeper — probably an intern — named Lucas Hackman, ran out onto the field to retrieve the little monster, getting bit multiple times in the process.

One pitch later … this!

A Yadier Molina grand slam to propel the Cardinals to their fifth straight win. Hey, everything has to come at a cost. In this case it was Lucas’ finger.

What’s crazy is that the 2011 World Series champion St. Louis Cardinals team had the luck of the ‘rally squirrel.’ They believed in it so much they put the lil guy on their championship rings. Now everyone is wondering if the magical ‘rally cat’ will provide the same good fortune.

At least the banter on Twitter was hilarious. Let’s just say St. Louis BELIEVES.

 

And this person claims that they picked up the cat outside the stadium and named him Yadi. Because, of course …

But now there are reports the cat is loose … again…

As for Lucas (the intern?), he had to go to the hospital. But from the looks of things he’s doing quite fine.

If the Cardinals win the World Series this year, I’m going to make sure that there is a raccoon set loose near the 1st base dugout next August.
