Superman Might Sport A Mustache In ‘Justice League’ Thanks To ‘Mission: Impossible 6’

Rugged and manly as Superman may be, he’s never donned a mustache as part of his iconic getup. Or, at least not on film. But that’s all presumably about to change thanks to actor Henry Cavill’s upcoming roles in both Justice League and Mission: Impossible 6, the latter of which he plays a character with an apparently crucial cookie duster. None of this would be an issue if both movies were shooting at different times, but with director Zack Snyder recently stepping down from his duties and being replaced by Avengers: Age of Ultron helmer Joss Whedon, extensive reshoots totaling a cool $25 million have been scheduled.

Superman Has A Mustache In Justice League Thanks To Mission: Impossible 6

According to Variety, Cavill’s two films were all set to shoot at different times, but with the Justice League reshoots making it very difficult to get the cast all back together with ease, things have gotten a little hairy:

Justice League’s Man of Steel had expected to be able to finish shooting the sixth Mission: Impossible film before needing to don Superman’s spandex again. That has not been the case, however, as the new scenes that are being shot have required him to jump back and forth from each production. Because of this, a mustache he grew for his character in the Mission: Impossible sequel will have to be digitally removed in post-production. Paramount, which is distributing the Mission: Impossible sequel, would not allow Cavill to shave the facial hair while production was taking place.”

We haven’t heard this much commotion over someone’s facial hair since Chris Evans’ Captain America grew a beard. But that was, like, a day ago. Old news! But speaking of which, at least Whedon has experience shooting around men’s personal grooming (or lack thereof).

By the way, in case you were wondering, yes, Twitter is very much into a whiskered Superman:
