Quentin Tarantino is a celebrated, award-winning filmmaker, but he’s not a particularly prolific one. Lately, the director of Pulp Fiction, Inglourious Basterds and The Hateful Eight only makes a new movie every three years. The bad news is, that means he doesn’t make many movies. The good news is, he’s just about due to make another one.
Quentin Tarantino has written and will direct a new feature film about the infamous Manson Family murders, according to Hollywood Reporter. The director is already in talks with “A-list” actors for the film, which is expected to begin shooting in 2018. Harvey and Bob Weinstein are attached to produce the project, and Brad Pitt and Jennifer Lawrence are rumored to have already had discussions about appearing in the untitled new film.

Although Quentin Tarantino has made two westerns and a World War II drama, a film about the so-called “Manson Family” would be the first time the writer/director has explicitly dramatized real-life events. The cult, led by Charles Manson, was responsible for multiple murders in the late 1960s, including a home invasion which resulted in the slaying of actress Sharon Tate, the star of Valley of the Dolls and wife of director Roman Polanski.
The Manson Family murders have been adapted into feature films before, including the 1976 tv movie Helter Skelter (which was remade in 2004), and the short-lived NBC television series Aquarius.
Quentin Tarantino’s approach to filmmaking does not necessarily lend itself to conventional biopics, so fans should probably expect his version of the events to unfold in an unexpected way.
