Most baseball fans hear the name Keith Hernandez and immediately associate it with the mustachioed first baseman from the 1986 World Series champion New York Mets. Hell, even the most casual baseball fan knows that thanks to his hysterical cameo in the third season of Seinfeld.
But if you live outside of the New York area, odds are you have missed the majority of baseball games featuring the Mets since then because you have been busy doing anything else. Yes, even when the Mets made their latest run to the World Series in 2015, it was still like, “Meh, whatever. They’re the Mets.”
Well, that means you have missed Hernandez calling the games on television for SNY, and he’s actually very good at it, bringing a solid mixture of in-depth analysis and humor to the broadcast. The other night was no different, as he was behind the mic breaking down every moment of New York’s 10-6 loss to Los Angeles. But you could definitely make the argument that his best work came when both he and Gary Cohen thought they were off the air and began discussing the Washington Nationals losing to the Miami Marlins earlier in the evening due in large part to starting pitcher Tanner Roark sucking balls yet again.
Let’s just say he put it a tad differently.
“Roark’s been getting his tits lit.”
Now that on it’s own is hysterical, but the fact that Cohen didn’t even skip a beat while wholeheartedly agreeing with him is what makes it legendary.
The bad news for New York fans? You guessed it: Their beloved team’s pitching staff is also getting their tits lit, as only the Reds and pig shit awful Phillies have a worse team ERA in the National League this year.
