It’s time to say goodbye to an “old chum.” Last weekend, Adam West passed away at the age of 88. While West had an acting career that spanned decades, he was best known, and most loved, for his iconic role as the title character in the Batman TV series from 1966. That show was campy and goofy, but West made it work better than anyone could have hoped. Now, over 50 years since West’s first Batman adventure, the Caped Crusader is getting one final Bat-signal as a curtain call.
On Thursday, June 15, the city of Los Angeles will pay tribute to West by shining the Bat-signal at City Hall. Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti and Police Department Chief Charlie Beck will personally oversee the ceremony, which will reportedly include a few “surprise Bat-guests.” Fans are invited to attend the ceremony at 9pm, and cosplayers are even welcome to dress up as Batman for the event.

The West family has made a special request to Batman fans around the world. If you wish to make your own tribute to West’s legacy, his family asks that you make a donation to the Adam West Memorial Fund for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and Idaho-based charity for children diagnosed with cancer and their families, Camp Rainbow Gold.
