Bruce Wayne Proposes To [Spoiler] In Batman # 24

Are there wedding bells coming to the Batcave? Quite possibly, because Bruce Wayne has gone ahead and proposed to the woman that he loves. But rather than wait for the surprise in this week’s Batman # 24, DC has spoiled the reveal 24 hours early.

There is a massive spoiler ahead, so consider this your final warning to turn back!

USA Today was given the exclusive reveal of Bruce Wayne expressing his vulnerable side to his longtime love interest, Selina Kyle, a.k.a. Catwoman. And after he took off their masks, Bruce took a knee and popped the question. To illustrate the spoiler, here’s the splash page where it happened, as rendered by artist David Finch and inker Danny Miki.

“Everyone’s done vengeance, everyone’s done ‘The night is so dark,’ ” explained Batman writer Tom King. “Giving Batman more pain doesn’t reveal anything about his character because he’s taken as much pain as he can. But giving him love and joy, that combines with the tragedy of his past into something new and never done before…Was this a moment of vulnerability or a moment of arrogance? That’s almost the cliffhanger. Is Batman making the greatest decision of his life or the greatest mistake?”

Apparently, this is part of the setup for the flashback storyline that depicts a war between the Joker and the Riddler. According to King, next month’s Batman # 25 will feature the immediate aftermath, as Bruce refuses to let Selina answer until he confesses a secret that he’s never told anyone before. “It’s like, ‘You think you know me, but you don’t know me until this,’” related King. “The actual answer will come after he reveals something he’s never revealed to anyone, and she has to decide whether that’s good or bad.”

Batman # 24 will be released this Wednesday, June 7, in comic stores everywhere.
