Exclusive Preview | History’s ‘Superheroes Decoded’ Part 2

Last night, History unveiled the first part of its new documentary, Superheroes Decoded; which offered an in-depth examination of America’s unique modern mythology. Superheroes are popular all over the world, and other countries have their own. But their origins were built during the golden age of comics in the United States. And those heroes proved to be just as influential off of the page as they were in their original medium.

Tonight’s concluding part of Superheroes Decoded is taking a look at the heroes and heroines who challenged the social norms in the ’60s. And there were few who could match the impact of Wonder Woman. Although she was created in the ’40s, Wonder Woman emerged from the ’60s and ’70s as a feminist icon. But the story of her creation is still relatively unknown outside of comic book fans.

In CraveOnline’s exclusive clip from Superheroes Decoded Part 2, the history of Wonder Woman begins to unfold as the filmmakers turn the focus on to William Moulton Marston, the man who created Wonder Woman. In many ways, Marston was ahead of his time. And he was also quite…unconventional.

Here’s the description for Superheroes Decoded Part 2:

“Part two examines the American rebel and how sometimes being a hero means breaking the rules. From the beginning, superheroes like The X-Men, The Hulk, Black Panther, Iron Man, Luke Cage, and Wolverine have challenged authority and fought for outsiders, a battle that reflects the country’s most profound real-world divisions and struggles for justice. From their often controversial origins to recent resurgence in movies of today, these rebels redefine heroism for a new generation.”

Superheroes Decoded Part 2 will premiere tonight, May 1 on History at 9pm.
