They say to never judge a book by its cover, but if that were true, then why are first impressions so important? Besides, the following isn’t a book, but instead the latest calamity soon to be released by Warner Bros. Animation titled Tom and Jerry: Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. And our first impression is as follows: this is just a shot for shot remake of Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory with Tom and Jerry tossed in the mix! That sounds…pretty pointless. Yet at the same time, the fact that such an astoundingly lazy idea was actually given the green light has us more baffled than an actual cat trying to figure out an optical illusion. Tom And Jerry: Willy Wonka And The Chocolate Factory Is Laziest Movie Ever
Don’t get us wrong, this is far from the first time a studio has simply recreated a previously successful film and simply added characters to the hijinks after the fact, but this seems a little too elaborate for two properties that are far from past their prime. In fact, even the film’s IMDb page can’t help but make fun of it, with the current storyline description of the movie reading, “Warner Bros. gets lazy and just remakes Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory with Tom and Jerry shoehorned in.” (Don’t worry, we screencapped it below since it will surely be taken down soon):
Seriously, how dare they tout this as an “all new original movie.” It’s half new at best. Fool us once, shame on you. But fool us twice… Still, this is far from the worst looking movie to be released this year, so we’ll be sure to pick up our copy when its released in August.
