According to her debut track, you’ll have to find Talon Majors ‘in the shadows.’ But if “Crystal Heart” holds any fore-shadowing whatsoever, the singer-songwriter may be a beacon to other female rockers than anything else.
Majors’ debut is the beginning of a project the Colorado (LA transplant) native calls Velvet Winter. And after listening to “Crystal Heart,” I’m already looking forward to what else she has in her repertoire.
The track has a very simple guitar riff that still resonates — it’s catchy. But the entire song is composed and produced beautifully to allow Majors’ voice to really punch through. And it’s a pop-rock song that still has depth, mostly because Majors has depth.
“I’ve always loved loud music and crazy hair. I’ve also always been incredibly outspoken and somewhat of a free thinker. I learned at a young age how incredibly judgmental people can be about anyone they do not understand,” said Majors.
The indie-rocker moved to LA in late 2013. That’s where she began songwriting.
“I battled drinking and anxiety meds for years. I guess I have the classic ‘artist with a broken past thing’ working for me!” She laughed.
Majors’ life was surrounded with abuse and addiction for years. But now she’s been able to turn that nightmare into an avenue to follow her dreams and to hopefully help others.

Majors’ influences include Lana Del Rey, Florence and the Machine and Melanie Martinez.
“I hope to connect with people with troubled pasts whether its drug abuse, eating disorders, sexual orientation and others. My heart goes out to people with depression, PTSD and other illnesses that you can’t see on the surface,” said Majors, who had a fatal health scare of her own in 2015.
The singer-songwriter has produced a three song EP and is going for an experimental sound that ranges from electronic indie-rock to Spanish guitar with her current producers.
“The project has so much happening now I wouldn’t know where to begin. You’ll just have to wait and see!” Said Majors. “I truly believe everyone can find the strength to stand on their own and go after what they want. If you live in someone’s shadow you’ll always be behind your dream.”
Majors sings repeatedly to “find me in the shadows.” I have a feeling that her allure won’t keep her in the shadows for long.
She certainly has the talent and the right people backing her. Let’s hope people buy it. I’m in.
