Here’s What the New Overwatch Tease Probably Means

Blizzard has posted a tease for new Overwatch content on its social media channels, and fans of the FPS are already hard at work trying to decipher what it could mean.

The short video states that “mission files” will unlock on April 11, with it featuring a selection of ability icons along with what appears to be a new skin for Tracer. The building looks like an Omnic Corporation and, when you consider that King’s Row is also an Omnic sanctuary, the “King’s Row Uprising” text that appears in the tease suggests that we’ll be receiving some expanded lore for the game.

King’s Row was notably the location of Tekhartha Mondatta’s assassination at the hands of Widowmaker, with the date of the Omnic peacekeeper’s death not being revealed in the animated short he was featured in. Tracer was also featured in this short, with her failing to prevent Widowmaker’s assassination attempt, meaning that Blizzard could be looking to explore the aftermath of this important moment in the Overwatch universe.

So what will this mean in terms of new content? From the looks of things Tracer is set to receive a brand new skin, and it appears to be Omnic themed, lending further credibility to speculation that Omnics will play a significant role in this new content. King’s Row has also been home to multiple riots as a result of the ongoing human-Omnic conflict in the wake of Mondatta’s death, which suggests that the “Uprising” hinted at in the tease will involve an Omnic rebellion following his assassination. The sign reading “Mandatory Robot Registration” also doesn’t spell good things for the Omnics.

Judging by these clues, it’s likely that April 11 will see the start of a new major lore event, presumably revealing more about the impact of Mondatta’s death on the Overwatch universe. It’s uncertain whether this will come in the form of a new animation, comic or something more substantial, but whatever the final product, it looks like Blizzard is gearing up for something big.
