Gary Barlow Will Appear in Star Wars: The Last Jedi For Some Reason

Take That singer Gary Barlow is set to appear in Star Wars: The Last Jedi, in what will likely be the oddest celebrity cameo in the new sci-fi trilogy thus far.

Barlow has claimed that he has been cast in the upcoming Star Wars movie in a minor role, similar to Daniel Craig’s appearance in 2015’s The Force Awakens. Talking to Lorraine‘s entertainment correspondent Ross King, Barlow said: “I’m not a stormtrooper, but I am in it.”

He continued: “Now I’ve said that, I’ll probably be out. I think the Star Wars people are so strict about what information [is out there]. So me saying that, I’ve probably just done myself out of a role.”

Barlow’s cameo will follow Daniel Craig’s brief appearance in The Force Awakens.

The 46-year-old was rumoured to be involved with the upcoming film after being spotted at Pinewood Studios in Buckinghamshire, where Episode VIII is being filmed. Considering that Take That aren’t exactly well-known in the US, Barlow being brought in for a cameo appearance is an odd move, though it is being reported that his connections in the film industry have landed him the role.

The singer’s acting credentials aren’t exactly exemplary, with him previously appearing in Heartbeat, Miranda and Keith Lemon: The Film. There’s no word yet on who Barlow will play in The Last Jedi, though it’s very likely that he’ll appear in a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it cameo. However, as pointed out by Barlow, the high level of secrecy surrounding each new Star Wars release may lead to him being dropped for the film as a result of him being loose-lipped about his appearance.
