Watch This Canadian Tennis Player Smash A Ball Into The Umpire’s Face

Odds are you best recognize Denis Shapovalov from the phrase, “Who in the hell is Denis Shapovalov?”

Well, Shapovalov is apparently a Canadian tennis player who didn’t take too kindly to losing a point during a Davis Cup match in Ottawa Sunday afternoon. But it wasn’t a racket-breaking tantrum, two-minute cursing session or ripping off of clothing that he chose to vent his frustration. Instead, Shapovalov decided to hit a tennis ball as hard as he could, and wouldn’t you know it, that ball wound up smacking the chair umpire directly in the face less than a second after leaving Shapovalov’s racket.

Umpire Arnaud Gabas of France received first aid treatment and an ice bag while he was still courtside, and not only did Shapovalov lose the match, but his shitdickery also led to his team getting disqualified:

“Under the rules of the International Tennis Federation, Canada was disqualified, losing the match to Britain’s Edmund by a score of 6-3, 6-4, 2-1 and handing the tie, which was level at 2-2 after four contests, to Great Britain 3-2.

The disqualification means Great Britain moves on to the quarterfinals of Davis Cup, while Canada will have to play in September in the World Group playoffs to remain in the top tier of international tennis.”

Shapovalov said he felt bad about what happened but probably not as bad as that umpire’s eye looks this morning.
