Lily Allen has covered Rufus Wainwright’s ‘Going to a Town’ in support of the Women’s March, with its monochrome music video featuring the singer performing among the protesters.
‘Going to a Town’ was initially released in 2007 by Canadian-American singer-songwriter Wainwright, with the musician at the time saying that America needed to “change things” and make sacrifices.” The lyrics include the line “I’m so tired of you, America.”

The cover is Lily’s first new material since 2014’s Sheezus, and follows a string of political statements from the singer including her pledging her public support to Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn last year, along with the Women’s Equality Party. She also joined a group of musicians in recording a rendition of Midnight Oil’s ‘Beds are Burning’ in order to influence political leaders attending a global climate change summit back in 2009, a topic which will now receive even more attention considering Donald Trump’s stance on the issue.
