The world’s largest short film festival, Tropfest, celebrates its 25th anniversary this year, and has just unveiled which 16 finalists will be screened in Sydney’s Parramatta Park this February.
The shortlisted finalists have come from a stack of hundreds of films submitted by Aussie and international producers, and they all had to feature this year’s Tropfest Signature Item, the pineapple.
What’s more, half of this year’s Tropfest finalists are women. “It’s wonderful to see the entrants this year reflecting a vast range of diversity and gender,” says Tropfest Founder and Chairman John Polson.
“Over the past 12 months, we’ve made a major effort to attract women to enter Tropfest – with help from people like Lucy Liu and producer Bruna Papandrea – so it’s incredibly exciting to see that effort pay off. We have 16 very unique films to premiere to tens of thousands of Tropfest fans at our wonderful new home in Parramatta.”
Tropfest 2017 will take place in its new Parramatta Park location on Saturday, 11th February, where they’ll be reviewed by a panel of judges headed by actress Rose Byrne. The screenings will also be broadcast on free-to-air TV channel Eleven.
