Kenny Omega Confirms He’s Considering Move to WWE

Kenny Omega has confirmed that he’s considering signing to WWE, and that he is currently a free agent.

Omega’s Wrestle Kingdom 11 match against Okada has been hailed as a modern classic, with it bringing a lot of new eyes to NJPW and, in particular, Omega. With WWE having signed a variety of talent from NJPW over the past few of years, from Shinsuke Nakamura through to AJ Styles and the Bullet Club, many have been speculating that the company is now looking to secure Omega as its next big star. Omega has hinted that he has been weighing up his options on Twitter, though many have speculated that these tweets could be part of an angle for NJPW. However, he has now confirmed that he would consider an offer from the WWE, saying that he now feels that he would have a place within the company.

Speaking to former WWE Superstar and commentator Taz on his The Taz Show podcast, Omega said: “Right now I am free to make my own decisions… I haven’t really put out feelers to anyone, but I am accepting feelers and negotiating for the best scenario for me right now. And really, it’s not so much a monetary figure I’m looking for … I really do want to change the business as much I can in my own way, or at least do something with impact.”

Omega then went on to say that he has “come so far” in Japan that he feels he has had a “complete career” in the country, and that he is now open to offers elsewhere as a result. He then mentioned the WWE, adding: “Now people are talking about me and now WWE is more receiving of, y’know, using me in a way I could contribute.”

Taz then asked him whether or not watching the current WWE product, in which performers such as AJ Styles, Seth Rollins and Finn Balor have been allowed to thrive, had “opened his eyes,” with Omega responding: “It is a little bit of that, yes. More importantly, I don’t want to just take a pay day and collect a check. It sounds crazy — if the money’s there why wouldn’t I just want to sit around and collect money? While I’m still healthy, while I still have ideas in this crazy head of mine, I want to contribute and I want to do things that are going to make wrestling fans happy, and make new people into wrestling fans who were wrestling fans before.”

He continued: “If a company like WWE were willing to use me in that manner, if they had good ideas for me and I had good ideas that jived with that, I would heavily consider that.” He then added that although he would feel some regret over leaving NJPW without having captured its most prestigious title, he believes that if there was a “better opportunity elsewhere” then he would consider that option instead.

Fans had speculated that Omega could make a surprise appearance at the Royal Rumble, though with his NJPW contract not expiring until January 31 such a move would be a major long shot. Still, it’s great news for US wrestling fans to hear that “The Cleaner” is now open to offers from the WWE, and that we could see him taking on the likes of AJ Styles, John Cena and Seth Rollins in a WWE ring in the future.
