During his 16-year NFL career, Steve Smith caught 1,031 balls, 641 of which went for first downs. His 14,731 receiving yards are the seventh-most all time, and his 81 touchdown receptions are tied for the 26th-most of all time.
Needless to say, Smith has been terrorizing NFL secondaries for quite some time, but at the “ripe old” age of 37, he has decided to call it quits.
Well, apparently the retirement process in the NFL includes having to send Commissioner Roger Goodell a letter that says you’re hanging them up. You don’t have to give a reason why you’re doing so or go into much detail about how “honored” you were to serve under such an “outstanding” gentleman like Goodell. Really, all you have to do is say that you’re done.
Now as exciting as Smith was when he was on the field, if his retirement letter is any indication, it looks as though he is going to be equally as thrilling to watch off of it. Check this out:

Dear Commissioner Goodell, This is to inform you that as of today I, Steve Smith Sr., will no longer be antagonizing defensive backs. I am retiring from the National Football League.
Yeah, that’s beyond outstanding, and it’s safe to say that there are plenty of NFL cornerbacks and safeties who are pretty thrilled with that letter as well.
