Dylan Schmid Opens Up About His Work On Shut Eye And A New Netflix Film

If you haven’t heard of Dylan Schmid, you will – the young actor stars as Nick Haverford in Hulu’s Shut Eye and Henry James in Netflix’s upcoming original film 1922.

Shut Eye follows Charlie Haverford (Jeffrey Donovan), a scammer with a small chain of Los Angeles psychic storefronts and the crime families behind his business. Nick, played by Dylan, is Charlie’s 15-year-old son. While he appears to be an average teenager, he’s very aware that his family is the furthest thing from typical.

Dylan is also starring alongside Thomas Jane and Molly Parker in Netflix’s original film 1922, which will be released in early 2017. Based on a novella by Stephen King, 1922 tells the story of William James, who along with his son Henry (played by Dylan), murders his wife.

Here’s what he revealed about both projects and who he looks up to in the biz.

CraveOnline: Tell us about Shut Eye?

Dylan Schmid: Shut Eye follows fake psychic’s Charlie and Linda Haverford and their son Nick as they go through the hardship of keeping together and making money with ease.

And can you tell us about 1922?

1922 is about a father who confesses to killing his wife with the help of his son Henry.

Do you prefer one medium over the other (TV vs film), and why?

TV is good because of the long term relationship, showing every aspect of life. Although a well written film can have you feeling the same way at the end of only two hours. I’ve noticed film is more specific and honest. So film.

Ever think of working behind the camera?

To write, produce, direct and act in my own film with endless connectivity is the goal. So yes, working behind the camera is a thought, as long as I’m in front of the camera as well.

Who is someone you look up to in the business and why?

Jake Gyllenhaal. This is because of his career path and choices in the industry, also because he’s incredibly honest and connected in all his projects.

What’s one thing people would be surprised to know about you?

Most likely how dedicated I am when it comes to the things I really care about. I also like to write poems and make music.
