In the midseason finale of Star Wars Rebels, Darth Maul and Ezra Bridger both received the info that they were looking for: Obi-Wan Kenobi is alive. While that’s no surprise to long time Star Wars fans, it was certainly news to them. For Ezra, Obi-Wan represents a chance to destroy the Sith, while Maul simply wants his revenge. And this isn’t some tease that will never be paid off. The midseason preview trailer for Star Wars Rebels finds an older Obi-Wan Kenobi on Tatooine as his old nemesis confronts him.
As for the Rebels, they’ve got bigger problems. All season long, Grand Admiral Thrawn has slowly been putting his plan in motion. Now, the Rebels have finally fallen into his trap, and it appears that their hidden fortress will soon come under a relentless attack from the Imperial armada. We even get a glimpse of Thrawn’s training session, as he proves that he can fight one-on-one if he needs to…and he isn’t accepting surrender as an option!

The new trailer also features footage of Forest Whitaker’s Saw Gerrera fighting alongside the Rebels as Thrawn hunts down the spy in his midst. Sabine Wren also takes the spotlight as she attempts to get her people to turn away from the Empire and reunites with her mother. Now that Sabine has the Darksaber, she’s going to be challenged for her legacy. But first, she’s going to receive some very valuable training from Kanan as she prepares for the battle of her life.
Star Wars Rebels season 3 will resume this Saturday, January 7 with a two-part episode on Disney XD that will be called “Ghosts of Geonosis,” and potentially lead into Rogue One.
