Titan Brings ‘Robotech’ Back To Comics In 2017

Over three decades ago, The Super Dimension Fortress Macross, Super Dimension Cavalry Southern Cross, and Genesis Climber MOSPEADA anime series came to America as a single epic animated series known as Robotech. And while Robotech has rarely completely gone away, it’s about to get a big comeback in the comic book industry next year.

Titan Comics has announced plans to launch a brand new Robotech comic series next year, with Brian Wood (X-Men, Star Wars) as the writer. “We are excited to have the opportunity to work with Brian to expand the Robotech universe.” said Harmony Gold’s Tommy Yune in a statement. “His bold approach to storytelling is thoughtful and will be full of surprises for fans.”

An artist for the series hasn’t been announced, but the retro cover by Jason and John Waltrip features Rick Hunter, Lisa Hayes, and Minmei, it’s a good bet that we’ll be spending some time in the Macross Saga.

Because the Robotech storyline was extended to three generations in the original series, there’s a lot of potential stories to be told in the new comic book. There’s also an opportunity to chart the future of the franchise beyond any of the previously released episodes or stand-alone animated movies.

Additionally, there is also a Robotech movie currently making the rounds at Sony with director James Wan attached. But it doesn’t currently have a production schedule or a release date.
