That’s the concept behind the one and only FloTrack Beer Mile World Championship.
Held in downtown Austin Saturday, Dec. 17, the event will mark the third year for the annual race.
Last year there were 300 competitors from around the world, including an 81-year-old who ran a beer mile in 20:25, out-running both her kids. There’s also a 4×400 meter beer relay, because, of course there is.
The “official beer” for the race will be Oskar Blues.

The 2015 FloTrack Beer Mile World Champions, Erin O’Mara and Lewis Kent, will return to defend their respective titles in the women’s and men’s races. In addition, world record holder Corey Bellemore, who boasts a personal-best beer mile time of 4:34.35, will compete. Overall, six of the nine fastest men ever in the beer mile, and four of the seven fastest women ever, are confirmed to race in this year’s event.
“The sport has come a long way since last year,” Kent said. “I won’t be returning as the favorite, but experience means a lot in the beer mile, and come race day I’ll be ready to roll.”
Want to win this thing? All the record holders run the race in under five minutes. Insane.
The race is already pushing the trend. These girls had fun running their own beer mile with no pants on.
As for the official championships in Austin, there will also be a beer garden, food trucks and music afterwards, so basically a total blast for those willing not to take this thing too seriously. I mean, hell, it beats running a mile without beer.
But then again, if you do win, you get this.
