Titanfall 2 Creator Provides Brash Response to Titanfall 3 Question

Titanfall 2 was a critical success, but it has underperformed commercially. Released between Battlefield 1 and Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare, two of the biggest shooters of the year, it was predicted that it would struggle as a result and these predictions turned out to be correct. However, even though fewer people have bought the game than expected, many consider it to be one of the best games of the year and are therefore demanding that EA commission the development of a sequel.

In a Q&A with Glixel, Respawn Entertainment co-founder Vince Zampella was asked whether or not Titanfall 3 is being planned, to which he replied, “We don’t know yet. The game is, critically, a huge success. We’re really happy with all the reviews and the positive sentiment. Sales, it’s too early to tell. We’d definitely like to tell more of the story and the universe. I think it’s pretty safe to assume that we’ll explore more of it. EA might have announced more.”

However, Zampella then turned towards EA publicist Devin Bennett, who added: “What we’ve said is we’re committed to the franchise.” Zampella then provided a brash response, adding: “So, whatever the fuck that means.”

Zampella’s comments may indicate that all is not well between EA and Respawn, with many feeling like EA may have placed the developer in an unnecessarily difficult situation by timing the launch of Titanfall 2 between two of the gaming industry’s biggest releases. Though neither Respawn nor EA has commented on who made the decision regarding Titanfall 2‘s release date, it seems that both companies share an uncertain future in regards to where the Titanfall series is headed next.
