After a looong week, the last thing most would expect is The XX to help us turn those frowns upside down.
The achingly lovestruck London trio of Romy Madley Croft, Jamie xx, and Oliver Sim, who dress like mod morticians, have not released an album in four years, but word of the electro-R&B group’s third album has been hinted by fans and the band themselves the past year with pictures of them in the studio and more recently dropping snippets of songs online.

Now, the XX are officially back with “Hold On”, the first single off I See You, which they announced will be out on January 13 via Young Turks.
The upbeat burner is a danceable duet that ingeniously samples “I Can’t Go For That (No Can Do),” the 1981 hit by Hall and Oates.
In addition to the new album, the XX performed an intimate gig for Annie Mac at the BBC’s Maida Vale studios before setting off on a world wide tour. They will play Saturday Night Live on November 19 with host Kristin Wiig.
