Andres Joseph And His Role On The New CBC Series 21 Thunder

CBC’s new series 21 Thunder is a one-hour drama series set in Montreal about an under-21 soccer academy, and follows the stories of the players and coaches who trying to get a shot at the pros. It’s got crime, relationship stories, a bit of mystery and lots of competition among the players.

Andres Joseph, a Vancouver native and main character on the show, talked about his love for Montreal and why he travels with spices.

CraveOnline: Tell us about the show

Andres Joseph: At first glance it seems like the show is a classic tale about athletic glory and the issues young adults face around athletics and sports. What’s beautiful about this story is it follows this core of young adults in a transitional period – they are just leaving high school, trying to make it to the pros, and every decision they make could affect them for the rest of their lives. We get to see how different cultures, race, socieconomic status, different families and relationships come into play and affect how the young adults make the decisions about their future. It’s really cool because you see a lot of perspectives of people from different walks of life and how soccer is the core that brings them together.

What other projects have you worked on?

I’m from Vancouver so I’ve been on The Flash, Supernatural, iZombie, and Lucifer.

How has it been living and working in Montreal?

I lived here for a month when I was 17 for a work exchange program, and I really fell in love with it, so I was super happy to come back. I kept telling myself, “I’m going to come back,” and it’s such a great opportunity to be able to work here and be surrounded by such cool people.

What’s something people would be surprised to know about you?

I cook a lot. I love to cook. I travel with my own spices and my chef knife.
