Homeland may be skipping 2016, but the new season is scheduled to hit early next year as Showtime’s signature series reinvents itself once again. And if the first teaser is any indication, Carrie Mathison is once again on the outs with the CIA.
After spending the last two seasons outside of the US, Carrie is back in her own country this season. But she’s seemingly out of the intelligence game, as Carrie now works for an organization that provides aid to Muslims living in New York City. But the threat of a terrorist attack never entirely fades away, and Carrie now finds herself on the opposite side of her former CIA colleagues. In particular, it looks like F. Murray Abraham’s Dar Adal may be Carrie’s chief adversary this year. But after all of this time, Carrie can more than stand up to anyone…even Adal.

Mandy Patinkin, Rupert Friend, and Elizabeth Marvel are also returning to the cast this season, alongside newcomers Hill Harper, Robert Knepper, Patrick Sabongui, and Dominic Fumusa. It’s also known that this season will take place between the U.S. Presidential election and Inaguration Day, as the current administration gives way to an incoming President and their staff. That may be why the nation is so vulnerable to an attack during its time of transition.
The sixth season premiere of Homeland will debut on Sunday, January 15 on Showtime.
