ITV Set to Reboot World of Sport Wrestling

ITV is going to reboot its World of Sport Wrestling series, with the broadcaster filming a brand new series of the classic pro wrestling show.

World of Sport previously aired every Saturday in the UK between 1965 and 1985, running in competition with BBC’s Grandstand. The show previously featured an array of sports, from the likes of snooker through to more obscure choices such as kart racing, though it became well known for prominently featuring pro wrestling and made household names of several of its competitors. Big Daddy and Giant Haystacks were among some of the more famous faces who wrestled under the World of Sport banner during its initial run.

Now the show is set to make its return, with it reportedly filming its first episode on November 1 and looking set to feature a number of prominent independent wrestlers. One of the first to reveal his involvement is El Ligero, a British professional wrestler who is best known for his work with Progress Wrestling and has been a staple of the indie wrestling scene for a number of years.

El Ligero also noted that the first World of Sport Wrestling taping will take place at ITV Studios, which is based in Manchester. There’s no word yet on who will be joining him for this new series, but those interested in booking priority tickets for the event can contact wswaudience@itv.com, using the promo code ‘ITV WRESTLING EL LIGERO.’

Little is known about the reboot at this stage, though with filming set to take place early next month it shouldn’t be long before it makes its way to air. With Robot Wars, Crystal Maze and now World of Sport receiving modern revivals, it’s certainly a good year for nostalgia-loving TV viewers.
