Michael Pachter has decided to take a pop at the deceased former Nintendo president Satoru Iwata, branding the beloved industry figurehead “late and not so great.”
Pachter, a leading industry analyst known for his online show Pach-Attack! and his work with Wedbush Securities, was discussing the upcoming iOS game Super Mario Run in his show Pachter Factor when he referred to Iwata. He said: “I think the problem with Super Mario Run is, to quote the late and not so great Satoru Iwata, is it’s free to start … he was questioned about what he thought about free to play, and he said “we prefer free to start.” He didn’t explain it, but we now have seen it – the first few levels [of Super Mario Run] will be free, and if players would like to play the remainder of the full game, they get to pay a full price.”

Satoru Iwata passed away in 2015 at the age of 55. After the announcement of his passing, Pachter raised the ire of many for a tweet that was deemed to be disrespectful, in which he said that he had “never been a fan of Mr. Iwata’s leadership,” but that he was still “very saddened by his untimely passing.”

However, despite the criticisms Pachter received for this tweet, it seems that he still couldn’t refrain from taking a shot at the late industry legend once again. It’s uncertain why Pachter feels the need to continue to criticize Iwata following his death, but considering the amount of respect the majority had for the former Nintendo president, we imagine that his latest comments won’t go down well.
