Bill Maher Delivers an Animated Takedown of Donald Trump

Bill Maher has never made a secret of his disdain for Donald Trump, even before the self-described billionaire ran for President of the United States. Trump has also frequently been the target of Maher’s “New Rules” segment on HBO’s Real Time with Bill Maher. With the election under the month away, Maher has once again set his sights on Trump…but with a decidedly animated approach.

Maher and HBO have announced a partnership with ATTN that will feature animated versions of “New Rules.” For the first installment, Maher wrote and recorded a video that blames the rise of Trump on

Maher’s editorial segment from his weekly HBO primetime show. The video, released today on ATTN:, was written and recorded by Maher describes Trump as “the ultimate spoiled child.”

“Donald Trump is the grown-up version of every pain-in-the-ass kid who ever sat behind you on a plane kicking the back of your seat while the parents did nothing,” said Maher in the video. He went on to blame Trump’s rise on “the self-esteem movement” and the self-centered ways that Americans view themselves. It’s really nothing we haven’t heard from Maher in the past, but the visuals do add a certain punch to the jokes. Somehow, Maher and company resisted the urge to include another callback to the “orangutan” bit that provoked Trump years ago.

In a statement, Maher noted that he is also an investor in ATTN, and he called it “the next generation’s Huffington Post.” He went on to add that “ATTN: is the future of how people will become educated about the issues that affect their life, which is what I have always tried to do – and now I have a kick-ass animation department to help me!”

It’s not clear how frequently ATTN and Maher plan to release new videos. But with the election just a few weeks away, it’s a pretty safe bet that Maher will revisit this topic a few times.
