If you’ve never heard of baseball player Chris Colabello, it’s probably because he was a career .194 hitter entering this season. Or maybe it’s because he plays for the Minnesota Twins. Either way, Colabello was responsible for perhaps the best feel-good moment of the young MLB season yesterday during Minnesota’s 6-4 win over Tampa Bay.
With the Twins down by a pair of runs in the top of the fourth inning, Colabello stepped to the plate while Marney Gellner of Fox Sports North began interviewing his mother Silvana, who along with her husband had traveled on her birthday to watch her son play.
After Colabello watched the first pitch go by for a ball, Gellner hoped for some kind of present from Chris to his mother during the at-bat, and this is what she got:
Colabello played college ball at Assumption College, where he once hit two homers for his mom on her birthday. If the Twins were smart, they’d make sure the team celebrates her birthday everyday.
