Angels Hitting Coach Breaks Leg Catching Ceremonial First Pitch

If what took place before the Angels-Mariners game last night is a sign of things to come for the Angels’ 2014 season, they might not win a single game this year.

The only two MVPs in Angels history took the field yesterday to throw and catch the ceremonial first pitch. The newly retired Vladimir Guerrero went to the mound as hitting coach Don Baylor took a knee behind home plate.

Guerrero was known to have one of the best arms in the game when he played, so Baylor had to be expecting some cheese right down the middle. But Guerrero instead threw a slider low and away, and it crossed Baylor up something fierce.

More ironic than the fat guy who just ordered a Diet Coke with his McNuggets in front of me is the guy you can hear yelling, “What could go wrong?” just as Guerrero’s pitch hits Baylor’s glove.

Baylor fracturing his femur is what went wrong, and now the guy who is number four on the list of getting hit by a pitch in his career needs surgery to repair it.

Oh, and the Angels lost the game 10-3.
