R.I.P. Alexis Arquette (1969 – 2016)

Alexis Arquette, featured actress in Pulp Fiction, The Wedding SingerBride of Chucky, and many others, died early this morning at the age of 47.

Arquette was a charming polymath, a trans woman, and a lady with a pretty kooky sense of humor; one would have to in order to so joyously perform in a film like Children of the Corn V: Fields of Terror. Arquette was a visible activist for trans rights, and was a trans woman herself, having appeared in movies as both males, trans characters, and females. She played the trans Boy George wannabe in The Wedding Singer, a vampire DJ in Fran Rubel Kuzui’s Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and played supporting roles in a wide swath of independent queer films like Boys Life 3, Killer Drag Queens on Dope, and Tranzloco.

Arquette was also the subject of a 2007 documentary film Alexis Arquette: She’s My Brother, all about her transition from male to female. In television, she played Caligula in the cult hit show Xena: Warrior Princess

The cause of her death has not yet been released, but she was surrounded by her siblings, listening to David Bowie’s “Starman.” Her brother, Richmand, posted on Facebook the following announcement: “Our brother Robert, who became our brother Alexis, who became our sister Alexis, who became our brother Alexis, passed this morning September 11, at 12:32 am.”

Rest in peace, Ms. Arquette.
