The Real Sully Stars as Tom Hanks In ‘Jimmy Kimmel Live’ Skit

Seven years ago, airline pilot Captain Chesley Sullenberger made himself an American hero when he successfully pulled off the emergency water landing of US Airways Flight 1549 without a single causality. And he did it with such grace that he immediately became a media sensation, and the inspiration behind Clint Eastwood’s latest film, Sully. In that movie, Tom Hanks plays the title role, but now, it’s Sully’s turn to play Hanks!

During a joint appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live, Hanks and Sullenberger were present when Kimmel revealed that he had commissioned a parody sketch in which the real Sully got to stretch his acting muscles as the star of Hanks. And that meant briefly stepping into some of Hanks’ most famous movies, including Forrest Gump, Cast Away, and even Hanks’ TV show, Bosom Buddies

And yes, that really was Peter Scolari appearing as himself in the skit. It’s good that he’s still taking the whole Bosom Buddies thing with a sense of humor.

For his part, Hanks appeared to take the sketch well, although he added that it was now the only blemish on Sully’s otherwise distinguished career.

Sully is out in movie theaters today, and it could very well be another Oscar contender of Hanks. So don’t be too shocked if they end up on JKL together again somewhere around February. But they’d be hard pressed to top this appearance.
