Tropfest Is Relocating To A New Home In 2017

The biggest short film festival in the world Tropfest will move from its home of Centennial Park to Parramatta in 2017.

For the festival’s 25th Anniversary it will set up in a new home Parramatta Park giving the festival a chance to expand with almost 50,000 people expected to attend the event.

It’s due to go ahead on 11th February 2017. Tropfest was typically held in December, however, this year it occurred in February following a disaster few months for the festival that resulted in its 2015 cancellation.

“A terrible and irresponsible mismanagement of Tropfest funds” forced the festival to cancel but it was saved at the last minute by insurance company insurance company CGU and was pushed back to February.

It’s expected that the festival will inject $2 million into the local Parramatta economy and help grow its already thriving art community.

“Great cities have great festivals and this is a chance for the Parramatta community to be part of one of the world’s best-loved film festivals,” said Parramatta Administrator Amanda Chadwick in a statement.

“Parramatta is a true events destination and I’m sure Tropfest will find a happy home in our city. Bringing Tropfest to Parramatta Park will give the event room to grow and prosper and will enable a whole new audience to discover the future stars of Australian film.”

Filmakers can enter their films into the competition from September, working with a pineapple which is the Tropfest 2017 Signature Item.
