How to Solve No Man’s Sky’s PC Release Problems

No Man’s Sky‘s PC release is finally upon us, but the game is attracting a less than favorable response on Steam.

The game currently sits at a “Mostly Negative” user review rating, with only 29% of the 2,500 who have purchased it since its launch earlier today having reviewed it positively. But the complaints leveled against the game don’t pertain to its content, but rather its shoddy performance on the platform.

According to many players their game is crashing immediately upon startup, while others are reporting severe frame rate drops, audio problems and other assorted issues that are making it an irritating experience to navigate. One user wrote that it dropped to 30 fps for “looking at a rock,” while another branded it “unplayable.” However, Hello Games founder Sean Murray has addressed these problems on Twitter, informing players affected how to get it up and running.

Firstly you’ll need to check your hardware’s specifications. The minimum system requirements are as follows:

  • Windows 7 OS
  • Intel Core i3 Processor
  • 8GB of RAM
  • NVIDIA GTX 480 GPU
  • 10GB available storage space

With that stumbling block out of the way, Sean Murray said that the major issue faced by many players was that they were without the Visual C++ Redist 2010, which you can download right here. Murray also said that the issue may be a result of players’ GPU drivers being out of date (go here for nVidia drivers and here for AMD drivers).

Murray added that they had already released a patch to help rectify many of the issues currently plaguing the No Man’s Sky PC version, and hopefully following the above instructions irons out any other problems that players may be experiencing.
