Last spring, ABC shocked industry observers by failing to pick up Marvel’s Most Wanted to series after spinning out two of the most popular Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. characters, Mockingbird and Hunter, to headline the series. Given its ratings, it was less of a surprise that Agent Carter wasn’t renewed, but that left only one Marvel series on ABC.
According to Variety, ABC’s Entertainment President Channing Dungey told the reporters assembled for the Television Critics Association Press Tour that Marvel and ABC have already started talking about a new series for the Alphabet network. “Wall came to an agreement that the next show that we want to do together is something that is as creatively strong as it can be.”
Of course, the unmistakable implication is that Marvel’s Most Wanted wasn’t “creatively strong.” But aside from that bit of shade, the news here is that both the network and Marvel are already looking ahead at their next project together. What could that be?

The most likely candidate is Ghost Rider, as portrayed by Gabriel Luna in the upcoming fourth season of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., which is a pretty high profile introduction for this version of the character. If Ghost Rider resonates with the TV audience, don’t be too shocked if a Ghost Rider series is on the air next season.
As for the other most likely possibility, we’d have to go with Ms. Marvel, the teenage Pakistani American heroine who already has a sizable fandom from her relatively brief comic book history. Since none of Marvel’s films have dealt with the Inhumans yet, television seems like the best bet to introduce one of the company’s most popular Inhuman characters.
Entertainment Weekly noted that Dungey told the press that a Star Wars live-action series on ABC remains a possibility, but she indicated that it probably wouldn’t happen soon. “we have had conversations with [Lucasfilm] and will continue to have conversations with them,” said Dungey. “I think it would be wonderful if we could find a way to extend that brand into our programming… It’s all a little bit hush-hush. That company exists under a big shroud of secrecy. If you feel Marvel’s secretive, [Lucasfilm] takes it to a whole other level … [Talks] are ongoing. We don’t have an official timeline yet.”
