The David Bowie Lazarus musical is set to make its way to the UK later this year, after already having landed in New York.
Lazarus made its debut in the US late last year, with it now set to open in Kings Cross Theatre in London from October 25, 2016 to January 21, 2017. Based on The Man Who Fell to Earth, the 1976 British sci-fi film in which Bowie portrayed an alien who had crash landed on Earth, the film will see Dexter’s Michael C Hall reprising his starring role in the stage show, alongside actors Michael Esper and Sophia Anne Caruso.
Lazarus opened in New York on December 7, 2015, a little over a month before David Bowie died. It features songs lifted from various eras in Bowie’s career, including tracks taken from Blackstar, the final album before the legendary artist’s passing. The show was co-written by Bowie and Enda Walsh, the Irish playwright who also penned the script for Once, the musical based upon the Oscar-winning film of the same name.
Lazarus was generally well-received by critics upon its release, with the New York Times describing director Ivo van Hove as a “perfect match” for the the show.
