New Concert Film | Toro Y Moi Live from Mojave

Chaz Bundick aka Toro Y Moi defies your typical rock ’n roll stereotypes with a look and sound that’s more cerebral than indulgent (you would never catch this dude in leather pants). Yet, the chill wave artist is taking a page from Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd and The Rolling Stones with an ambitious live album concert film. Carpark Records will release Live From Trona digitally on August 5th and a limited edition pink vinyl double LP is set for November 4th (Use code “Trona15” for 15% off during pre-order). Filmmaker Harry Israelson, who directed Toro Y Moi’s video for “Lilly,” recorded the band playing psychedelic favorites in the surreal setting of California’s Mojave Desert. Filmed without an audience in a dream-like natural environment, Israelson uses hand-drawn animations, sweeping drone shots and behind-the-scenes VHS footage for an intimate portrayal of a special artist. The documentary is Vimeo’s first ever concert film and will screen at New York’s House of Vans on August 2nd (RSVP for free tickets) and the Theatre at Ace Hotel Downtown Los Angeles on August 4th (here for $20 tickets). Word is that Chaz will be doing a Q&A and live DJ set for the LA premiere.
