For 7 years now, The Festival Of Dangerous Ideas has descended on the Sydney Opera house for a series of thought-provoking discussions and 2016 will be no different. Today, the team behind the event have announced the official line-up of particularly dangerous thinkers involved in this year’s event.
The main topics for this year will be Disappearing Countries, Dealing in Death, Disruptive Behaviour, and Dirty Politics. These will cover everything from inequality between generations, religious and political extremism and addressing Indigenous people dying in an international suicide epidemic.
Taking to the podium to express their views will be Black Lives Matter activist Alicia Garza who will be joined by Stan Grant, UK science correspondent Alok Jha, plus the likes of Germaine Greer, Annabel Crabb, David Marr and Andrew Bolt. Black Flag frontman Henry Rollins will also be presenting a talk on “the bloodbath that is US politics.”
Speaking to Time Out, FODI co-curator and head of talks and ideas at Sydney Opera House, Ann Mossop explained of the event’s ethos: “We look at the more dangerous end of the equation, but also the less dramatic but equally interesting topics like the ‘Bamboo Curtain’, which is about discrimination against people from Asia.”
