Victorian Government Shuts Down Mr Burger’s “Change Your Name To Burger” Competition

The State of Victoria has made a lot of burger-loving enemies today after it sent a letter to Melbourne burger joint Mr Burger telling them to cease running their Australia’s Next Mr Burger competition, that would have seen someone awarded a lifetime supply of free burgers if they changed their surname to Burger.

Forget the election, this is the real political issue we need to get behind. #freetheburgers.

For those of you out there who, like me, are outraged at this overzealous overstepping of government control, unfortunately, this is entirely legal and not an extra-judicial and prejudiced attack on the meal of the people, (at least that’s what the oyster shucking suits in government are saying).

Apparently getting people to change their last name to Burger in order to win a lifetime supply of burgers constitutes improper use under the Deaths and Marriages Registration Act 1996. What has this country come to? I mean if changing your name to get a lifetime supply of burgers isn’t proper use, what is?

Coming only days after the Melburnian burger enthusiasts launched the competition, Mr Burger and co aren’t about to let the news dampen their spirits. Especially not their spirit of generosity.

Posting to Facebook  to announce the bad/delicious news, Mr Burger revealed that “to thank and reward everyone who shared and took part and for sharing it all around the world, from 12-2pm tomorrow (Friday, 1st July) at our Melbourne Central store, we will be serving up free Mr Burgers for all fans.” What a bunch of legends.

Not only that, but they’re still going to be giving one lucky person a lifetime supply of burgers, just for turning up, with the lucky duck being announced via Mr Burger’s Facebook page at 5pm.
