When AMC gave a greenlight for the live-action TV adaptation of Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon’s cult classic comic book series, Preacher, the network was probably hoping that it would be the next Walking Dead. But that hasn’t happened yet, and Preacher has barely pulled in half of the viewers of Fear the Walking Dead. Despite its struggle to attract a large audience, AMC is ready to place another bet on the show.
AMC has ordered a second season of Preacher, which will give the show another chance in 2017. This time, the season will be extended to 13 episodes, up from the 10 episode first season. Given the stiff competition that Preacher has received from HBO’s Game of Thrones, it could potentially move from its Sunday night timeslot.

“Preacher is a special television program and we’re eager to share with fans the rest of this wild first season and, now, an expanded second season,” said AMC’s president Charlie Collier. “What Sam, Seth, Evan and the entire creative team have achieved in bringing Garth Ennis’ graphic novel to the screen is extraordinary. We look forward to more time with these unforgettable characters be it in Heaven, Hell, Texas or beyond.”
Note that Collier isn’t kidding about “Heaven, Hell, Texas or beyond.” If the Preacher TV show follows the trajectory of the comic, then the series will eventually explore Jesse Custer’s insane roadtrip to find God alongside his ex-girlfriend, Tulip and Cassidy, a drunken Irish vampire.
