It’s no surprise that Drake is the best thing in this overeager SNL sketch about an overeager Kinko’s worker. True to the show’s form, there’s a try-hard desperation to the conception, writing and most of the acting as the show’s cast races through a string of catch-phrases by geeks who think they’re cool as the low-key haze the new guy. But Drake, as the new guy, is funny, self-effacing and game to puncture the very cool he labors to project as a rapper. He’s a go-for-broke theater kid at heart, willing to do whatever it takes to win your applause, and the charm that arises from tension between that quality and his cool hip-hop effect is one reason he’s such a huge star.
