Watch The Chaser Troll A Bunch Of Candidates With A Recorder

As has become fairly typical for The Chaser, the further advanced we get towards to election, the funnier their election specials become.

This year’s show The Chaser’s Election Desk has finally hit its stride, and after a lukewarm start to the series the boys (and new additions of Zoe Norton Lodge, Kristen Drysdale, Alex Lee and Hannah Reilly) are finding their groove, stunt-wise at least. The additions of the new cast members this year have opened up a whole new range of stunt possibilities, with politicians generally wise to stunts being pulled by the original members of the crew.

You’d definitely have been better served watching last night’s episode over State Of Origin, which featured Hannah Reilly posing as the mother of an enthusiastic young recorder player named Isabella. The stunt essentially involved Hannah and her “daughter” offering to play for an election candidate, and seeing how long they could tolerate the dulcet (read: ear-splittingly terrible) tones of the primary school recorder.

Bill Shorten, Richard Di Natale, and Tony Abbott were all put to the test, and they all lasted a minute or less. The standout winner was a political newbie; the Labor candidate for Bennelong Lyndal Howison – who managed to withstand the recorder for over four minutes, though at some point during the performance she began to question whether her continued life was worth living.

But full credit to the Labor MP, Howison was invited to come on the show for the closing sequence where she once again watched on as Isabella played recorder in front of a string quartet. You can check out the full show on ABC iview.
