The rumors have swirled and now it’s official, thanks to DC All Access, that Geoff Johns and John Romita Jr. will be taking over Superman from Scott Lobdell.
Here’s the show that made the announcement.
John Romita Jr. has a long-standing history with Marvel Comics – his Spider-Man is particularly memorable, as is Thor, Hulk, you name it – and now he’s taking on the Man of Steel, which Dan DiDio hopes will be “the first of many characters you get to draw at DC Comics.”
“My wife had wanted me to try Superman for a long time — Superman or Batman,” Romita Jr. said to IGN. “I never really paid attention to it, only because I had been under contract. So it was a confluence of events: a really good breakfast with Dan, some accepted ideas, and it built on itself.”
“I don’t think we want to talk too much about the story and specifics yet because it’s so early,” Johns said, “but it will introduce a new character, and it will kind of reset Superman and his universe in the New 52. I think we’ve got a lot of great ideas that we’ve never seen before in a Superman book. My tagline for the story is ‘Putting the Man of Tomorrow back in the Man of Tomorrow.'”
With any luck, this “reset” means we’ve seen the last of H’el. AKA Butt-Cape.
