Zara Larsson calls out the White House over its use of ‘Midnight Sun’
The Swedish musician called the White House “losers” after discovering that it had used her song in a video showing immigration authorities arresting and restraining people. She addressed the video in an Instagram post, where she explained why she objected to its use.
She said the video’s portrayal of the people upset her.
She said, “Like… I don’t even know what to say. You know what? I’m just sad. I’m just really sad.
“Cause I wish I could speak to whoever made this video. I wish I could talk to you. And I wish I could help you remember that you and I, we aren’t that different. At all. And we’re not that different from the people in this video, either. The biggest difference between us is that we were dealt a different hand in life.”
Larsson also questioned the connection between the video’s subject matter and her song “Midnight Sun.” She said, “There’s a f****** guy in there with construction wear. Like, he’s working. And a vast majority of these people who are undocumented are regular people with jobs, and they’re just trying to have a better future.”
“And this just creates this massive divide between people. I just don’t get it. Like… it’s just so f****** uncool. You guys are such f****** losers. Like, it’s crazy,” she said.
Larsson’s comments come after other musicians have also objected to their music being used in White House or Trump-related social media posts. Ariana Grande previously asked the White House not to use her music. This came after her song “Bye” appeared in a video showing federal agents arresting and handcuffing people. She called the use of her music “barbaric, inhumane, heinous nonsense.”
Moreover, Grande later criticized a separate Trump-related social media post that used “We Can’t Be Friends (Wait For Your Love),” writing, “Never use my music again. Also, your truth is false.”
