Justin Bieber recently shared a series of pictures on Instagram, showing him smoking using a bong. This sparked widespread discourse amongst fans online, with many of them criticising the 31-year-old singer for not only engaging in substance abuse but also showing it off online. Bieber’s bong smoking photo uploads and the subsequent criticism occurred one week after a representative had reportedly denied his drug use. These photos also arrived days after Bieber shared an Instagram story that had him smoking on camera.
Here is the fan criticism surrounding Justin Bieber’s bong smoking pictures, explored.
Justin Bieber faces backlash over Instagram pictures
On March 3, 2025, Justin Bieber uploaded six photos on Instagram, showing him riding a blue bicycle and smoking from a bong. The Never Say Never artist was clad in a navy blue jacket, a red hoodie, and a woolen scarf.
This post earned 770k likes. Upon seeing the photos, fans took to the comments section to express their dissapointment.
“Jesus freed you from that, bro, why are you going back to that?” one fan tweeted.
“@justinbieber you’re a new father, something you’ve wanted. Set a better example for your son,” another fan added.
“You have a child, and you smoke? What a shame,” a fan commented.
However, some fans were rather neutral and supportive in their stance, even calling out those criticising the musician. “Why is everyone on him for smoking? When I smoke weed, it calms down my anxiety and my depression,” a fan wrote.
“Why is everyone hating so much damn. It’s just weed, not snow,” another fan commented.
Justin Bieber has not yet addressed the criticism he has received for his bong smoking photos, as of writing.
Bieber’s new post comes several days after the musician shared an Instagram story where he was shown smoking on camera while jamming to Don Toliver’s Attitude, and smiling. This smile grew after he took two more puffs. Bieber then put his hands under his chin, closed his eyes, and jammed to Toliver’s song.
Before this, Bieber had uploaded a reel that featured him and a friend jamming to a song. Here, Bieber uttered lyrics about being high. This video also invited a lot of criticism from fans, with one even remarking how the birth of his and Hailey Bieber’s son Jack Blues did nothing to make him renounce drugs.
