Mark Hamill Says His Family Was ‘Fleeing For Our Lives’ To Escape Raging LA Fire

Mark Hamill provided a first-hand account of how he and his family evacuated their home in Malibu amid the raging LA fire. He recalled the family “fleeing” for their lives as fires engulfed the neighborhood. The Palisades fire has caused significant devastation across the Los Angeles County. While many celebrities safely evacuated their homes and shared that they were safe, some lost their homes. Meanwhile, the “Star Wars” actor’s post got netizens praying for his safety in the comments section.

Mark Hamill shares ominous fire update on Instagram: ‘Most horrific fire since ’93’

On Tuesday night, Mark Hamill took to Instagram to share his family’s situation following their evacuation during the Palisades fire. Like many others, the actor gave a detailed timeline of how they evacuated their Malibu home and made it to safety. He recalled that at 7 p.m. they left Malibu “last-minute” while encountering small fires on either side of the road as they approached the Pacific Coast Highway (PCH).

Hamill then said that at 8:15 p.m., he, his wife Marilou York, and their pet dog Trixie arrived at his daughter Chelsea Hamill’s house in Hollywood. In the post’s caption, the actor said, “* there ‘were’ small fires* ^ (gimme a break- we were fleeing for our lives).” Hamill called this incident the “most horrific” since 1993 when the fire spread over 18,000 acres in Malibu and destroyed over 300 homes, reported the BBC. He ended the post by advising everyone to stay safe.

This update provided some relief to his fans, who expressed their relief at the star’s safety. Many quoted the iconic line from the “Star Wars” franchise: “May the Force be with you,” which they thought seemed appropriate in the context. Some users also expressed their gratitude to Hamill for bringing the family dog, Trixie, along with them. A few commenters sent prayers the actor’s way, hoping that the family can make it back home safely.

Like Mark Hamill, many other celebrities have taken to social media to share their stories. Mandy Moore and Cary Elwes were among a few celebs who documented their evacuation journeys for everyone to witness the devastation in real time.

As of this writing, the Palisades fire has spread over 17,000 acres with zero containment. CNN reports it as the “most destructive [fire] ever to hit Los Angeles County.”
