Rapper and businessman Jay-Z, whose real name is Shawn Carter, has been hit with sexual assault allegations amid Sean “Diddy” Combs‘ indictment. Diddy, who was arrested in September, has been under investigation as he faces multiple allegations, including racketeering, sex trafficking, and transportation to engage in prostitution charges. The indicted rapper pleaded not guilty and was recently denied bail for the third time. Now, Jay-Z has denied the sexual assault allegations involving a minor added to the Diddy case.
CNN reported the woman initially filed the sexual assault lawsuit against Combs in October. The accuser, identified as “Jane Doe,” amended the filing on Sunday to include she was also assaulted by Carter. The woman alleged she was 13 years old at the time when the incident took place at an MTV Video Music Awards after-party in 2000. Doe went to a bedroom after she consumed a drink and began to feel “woozy.” This is where Carter allegedly raped her first, followed by Combs. The amended lawsuit also adds she hit Combs and ran out of the party.
Jay-Z denies sexual assault allegations added to Diddy case
Shawn Carter, aka Jay-Z, denied the allegations made against him in a lengthy statement on Sunday evening. According to NBC News, the 55-year-old rapper said, “These allegations are so heinous in nature that I implore you to file a criminal complaint, not a civil one!!” Carter continued, “Whomever would commit such a crime against a minor should be locked away, would you not agree?” The statement added, “These alleged victims would deserve real justice if that were the case.”
Carter also stated that his “only heartbreak” is for his family. He said in the statement, “My wife [Beyonce] and I will have to sit our children down, one of whom is at the age where her friends will surely see the press and ask questions about the nature of these claims, and explain the cruelty and greed of people. I mourn yet another loss of innocence.” Carter added, “Only your network of conspiracy theorists, fake physics, will believe the idiotic claims you have levied against me that, if not for the seriousness surrounding harm to kids, would be laughable.”
The accuser’s Texas-based attorney, Tony Buzbee, noted in the suit that Carter received a request for “a mediation to resolve this matter” from the plaintiff’s counsel before the refiling. However, the defendant filed his own lawsuit against Jane Doe’s attorneys. Carter also said in the lengthy statement, “You have made a terrible error in judgement thinking that all ‘celebrities’ are the same.” He continued, “I’m not from your world. I’m a young man who made it out of the project of Brooklyn.” Carter added, “We don’t play these types of games. We have very strict codes and honor. We protect children.”
