E3 2016 is here, and with it comes the announcement of a slew of new games to look forward to playing over the next few years. With Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo gearing up to show off their wares, not to mention major publishers such as Ubisoft, there will be plenty to see during each presser and on the expo’s show floor that will keep up more than entertained for the foreseeable future.
But which games do we most want to see from the event? The following list features 10 games that are either certain to be featured during the expo or are at least tipped to make an appearance, with us desperately wanting to get our hands on each one. Here are our top 10 most anticipated games of E3 2016:
Top 10 Most Anticipated Games of E3 2016
10. Detroit: Become Human
Quantic Dream have a divisive library of games, ranging from the oddball Heavy Rain through to the underwhelming and scattershot Beyond: Two Souls . For those invested in their style of cinematic storytelling, though, Detroit: Become Human is an intriguing prospect, with it placing players in the role of android Kara, who after having escaped the factory she was created in begins to explore her sentience.
Though Quantic Dream have dabbled in science fiction before, it was never placed at the forefront of their games. This time around, though, they're firmly focusing upon technology and its impact upon our world, and we're looking to see more of it at E3 2016.
9. Final Fantasy XV
Final Fantasy XV is only ranked so low in this list as a result of us having already seen quite a bit of it, but it's still one of our most heavily anticipated games of the year. With Square Enix set to release it on September 30th, we expect the publisher to show off a lot more of it during their presentation, alongside Final Fantasy VII Remake .
8. Star Wars Battlefront II
DICE's first crack at the Star Wars whip in Star Wars Battlefront got as many things wrong as it did right. Though it nailed its presentation and successfully replicated the feel of the original trilogy, it also suffered from some glaring balancing issues, a significant lack of content and overly simplified vehicular combat. With that being said, DICE have now laid the foundations to improve upon their formula with its sequel, with Motive Studios working alongside them on Star Wars Battlefront II as co-developers. Though EA have already announced the game in their E3 2016 press conference, we hope to see some footage of it either during the Sony or Microsoft pressers.
7. Scalebound
PlatinumGames' action RPG Scalebound keeps dipping off our radar, but with it set for release next year hopefully we hear more about it come Microsoft's press conference. An Xbox One exclusive, Scalebound pairs players with the gigantic dragon Thuban, engaging in battles with a variety of enemies across an open terriain. Platinum is stepping out of their comfort zone with this one by putting a greater emphasis upon its role-playing elements, with the action taking a backseat in this regard. The studio has a very dedicated following who will be eager to see the game in action again, so hopefully E3 2016 will allow us to see much more of this upcoming release.
6. Sea of Thieves
Sea of Thieves is the next release from Rare, the legendary studio that has suffered a significant decline in quality over the last 10 years or so. However, the studio seems to believe that Sea of Thieves represents a big milestone for them, with it reportedly their most ambitious project to date. Placing players in the shoes of a gang of pirates, you'll be tasked with sailing the seas, attacking other players' ships, collecting "booty" and staging mutinies. Hopefully this will be the comeback that Rare so sorely needs.
5. Horizon: Zero Dawn
With the news that Horizon: Zero Dawn 's release date has been pushed back to 2017, we hope to see much more from Guerrilla Game's action RPG to make up for the fact we're going to have to wait a few more months to get our hands on it. Horizon was one of the most exciting new announcements of last year's E3, and with it expected to receive a much bigger presence at the expo this time around, we're looking forward to hearing more about it.
4. The Last of Us 2
With Naughty Dog having wrapped up Uncharted 4 , Sony's first-party studio will inevitably be looking towards their next project. While many predict that a brand new IP could be on the horizon, it's equally likely that we'll instead see The Last of Us 2 , given how the development team has already revealed they have discussed a potential plot for the game. With The Last of Us being one of the greatest games of the previous console generation, it'll be interesting to see what Naughty Dog do with a sequel that many believe isn't necessarily needed. Regardless, The Last of Us was the developer's greatest game to date, so we'd be happy with seeing them return to it.
3. Ghost Recon Wildlands
Ghost Recon Wildlands was somewhat overlooked following its debut at E3 2015, despite it arguably being the most impressive looking game from Ubisoft's line-up. Placing an emphasis upon teamwork and stealth, Wildlands will also be the first ever Ghost Recon game to feature an open world environment, with it granting up to four friends the opportunity to explore its setting and complete its campaign's missions together. With us having been left majorly disappointed by Ubisoft's work on The Division , hopefully this one will exceed our expectations.
2. Red Dead Redemption 2
Rockstar doesn't tend to appear at E3 to make its announcements, but with so much speculation surrounding a potential Red Dead Redemption 2 reveal following the recent leaking of the game's map, we really hope that the developer will appear at the expo this year. Red Dead Redemption is widely regarded as one of Rockstar's best ever games, which is a huge statement to make about one of the gaming industry's most prolific and critically acclaimed studios. Rockstar taking the series to current-gen consoles would be a dream come true for many, so if Red Dead Redemption 2 does make an appearance this week, it'll more than likely steal the show.
1. The Legend of Zelda
With the recent revelation that The Legend of Zelda would now be appearing on both the Wii U and the upcoming NX console, Nintendo will be spending much of their E3 showcasing the game. The company clearly believes that they have something special on their hands here, and the success of the NX could well depend on it meeting our expectations. While a new Zelda game is big news in and of itself, that Nintendo will devote so much time to it makes it seems even more important. Though the company may plan to have a very low presence at E3 this year, there's no denying that The Legend of Zelda is one of the biggest games that will appear at the expo.
